Successful Conclusion of the I Contest: Your Idea, Their Health

A proposal from the Pediatrics Department and one from the Pharmacy Department were the winners of the 1st Contest: “Your Idea, Their Health,” whose award ceremony took place on December 14th at 12:30 pm in the auditorium of the San Carlos Clinical Hospital.

The contest was organized by the Biomedical Research Foundation of the San Carlos Clinical Hospital (FIBHCSC) within the framework of the San Carlos Health Research, Dissemination, and Innovation Program (IdISSC Program), with the active participation of the Innovation Unit throughout the process.

The presentation was conducted by María Luaces, Director of the Innovation Unit; Joana Modolell Aguilar, Director of the FIB; Antonio Álvarez Blanco, Medical Director; Sergio Belmonte Sánchez, Deputy Nursing Director; and Julio Mayol, Principal Investigator of the Innovation, Surgery, Pharmacy, and Neuroengineering Research Group.

The main protagonists of the event were the awardees of this edition:

ABSOLUTE INNOVATOR DIPLOMA endowed with 15,000 euros Assessment of acceptance and effectiveness by parents (guardians) of the use of newly designed polyvinyl stems for rectal dilation. Presented by Carmen Soto Beauregard. Pediatric Surgery Service

INNOVATOR DIPLOMA endowed with 10,000 euros for Automating adherence. Presented by Cristina González Pérez. Pharmacy Service.

For the adjudication of these awards, the jury has taken into account the projects submitted following the terms of the call and the evaluation criteria of the proposals: Impact, viability and sustainability, novelty, and level of maturity of the technology.

Within the established deadline, ten proposals were submitted. Outside the deadline, one more proposal was received, which has been evaluated but did not enter the competition.


The ten proposals were:

  3. Economic Impact Analysis Tool for Clinical Trials in the Oncology Service. Presented by Sergio Mosquera Ferrer. Clinical Pharmacology Service.
  4. Transcriptional Characterization and Biomarker Discovery in Cancer Associated with Chronic Infections through Single-cell and Single-Molecule Analysis (scRNAseq). Presented by Kissy Guevara Hoyer. Immunology Service.
  5. Gender Equity in Mental Health through Hospital Pharmacy. Presented by Natalia Sánchez-Ocaña Martín. Pharmacy Service.
  6. Fissios and Postoperative Complications (FPoC trial). Presented by Carlos Alfredo Fraile Olivero. Thoracic Surgery Service.
  7. Domoticizing Adherence. Presented by Cristina González Pérez. Pharmacy Service.
  8. Development of the first app for Progressive Pulmonary Fibrosis (PPF) patients. “Myfibropul: care for your fibrosis.” Presented by Asunción Nieto Barbero. Pulmonology Service.
  9. Implementation of a digital traceability tool for human milk in the Neonatal Unit. Presented by Virginia de la Fuente Iglesias. Neonatology Service.
  10. NeoLearn. Presented by Marta Ordax Soler. Neonatology Service.

The competition, aimed at transforming ideas and research into solutions to improve the healthcare services of the Hospital Clínico San Carlos, had the participation of professionals from the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Hospital Clínico San Carlos, the managing body of the IDISSC. In addition to cash prizes, the winners will receive support from the Innovation Support Unit of the IDISSC to continue developing their projects.

The contest was open for submissions until November 10, 2023, and the resolution, carried out by an evaluating committee of experts, will be published on the IdISSC website by the end of 2023.
