The session in a nutshell: The Ubiquitous Hospital

We are pleased to announce the participation of the following panelists, who will introduce two initiatives operating at the Hospital Clinico San Carlos by using the ubiquitous hospital approach.

Christian Bengoa, will talk about the CARDIORED project, which he coordinates and is a network of care for cardiological patients that has been formed between 4 hospitals in Madrid with SERMAS building the reference centre. Here, the patient receives the services that needed based on their state of health regardless of the hospital where initial service was given.. In other words, the patient is not “attached” to a specific hospital but is part of a network in which he will use services from various hospitals indistinctly depending on his state of health. This new model of care for cardiology patients is expected to be extended little by little to the rest of the hospitals in the Community of Madrid.

Arantza Álvarez de Arcaya, the director of the division of Hospital Medicine within the Hospital Clínico San Carlos will talk about how new technologies are helping patients recover quickly by facilitating home care. The hospitalist is the general practitioner who is specialized in the care of hospitalized patients incorporating a more humanistic orientation. S/he provides personalized assistance, collaborates with patients and with all the professionals involved in patient care, and coordinates the care in order to meet each patient’s needs in the right place and time.
